email from Paul Hall, former faculty member

Dear Dr. Copeland:

So sorry we haven't officially met as yet but I simply had to commend you on the choir's victory in France. This is such an honor to be brought generally to the University and to the School of the Arts specifically. I hope you will rehearse all the good feelings you received from the scoring over and over again. Let them last you a long time.

I joined the faculty in 1970 and had the pleasure of having Randall Richardson, Timothy Banks and Billy Strickland in classes. Billy went on to earn his Masters degree with us and I served on his reading committee at the University of Alabama while he was earning his doctoral degree. I retired in 1995 as Associate Dean, Choir of Music Education and Director of the Graduate Program. You'll see me "hanging" on the wall of horror at the end of the hall, second floor of Buchanan Hall.

I do hope there is opportunity to meet you in the near future. My wife and I attend many of the concerts on campus, especially the Davis concerts.

A good summer to you.

Paul Hall (Ret. Prof. of Music)

email from guest at Trinitè concert

Dear Samford A Cappella Choir and conductor Philip Copeland!

Although it is only 9 days ago that we were together in Eglise de la Sainte Trinitè it seems ages ago. Why?I gather because the memory of your incredible singing belongs to a realm so far from that which daily surrounds me:It contains so much eternity !

I was very pleased, bur not surprised when I read about your success in Tours .You certainly deserved every bit of it!

The contageousnes of the joy you radiate shareing your music with your listeners is unique. The experience is not listening to someone, but having communion together.

Some words from a song by Olivier Messiaen(who used to be an organist in Trinitè)comes to my mind:  "Every word from your lips in like a tender kiss and lasts as a kiss on the soul".

I think that is what it is:

It is s t i l l there and it does not fade! Thank you!!  I hope to be able to acquaint you with some Norwegian choral music and also that I might have the pleasur of hearing you again some time!

All the best to you from my wife and myself!

 Yours in great gratitude
